Veteran lyricist Dev Kohli, who penned several popular songs including the title song in Baazigar, Maine Pyar Kiya, is no more. He breathed his last in Mumbai on 26 August. However, the reason for his death has not been revealed yet.

Veteran lyricist Dev Kohli is no more. He was 80 years old. He breathed his last on 26 August in Mumbai. His mortal remains will be kept for the last darshan at his residence at Jupiter Apartment in Lokhandwala Complex from 2 pm on August 26. After this, his last rites will be performed at Oshiwara cremation ground located in Jogeshwari West at 6 pm. Kohli was one of the legendary lyricists of Hindi cinema, who wrote superhit songs for more than 100 hit films.

Dev Kohli wrote these songs for composers like Anu Malik, Ram Laxman, Anand Raj Anand, Milind and Uttam Singh.
Dev Kohli was born in Rawalpindi before independence
Dev Kohli was born on 2 November 1942 in a Sikh family in Rawalpindi, British India (now Pakistan). After partition, his family migrated to India and settled in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. He studied at Shri Guru Nanak Dev Guru Maharaj College. In 1964, Dev Kohli moved to Mumbai and started looking for work in films. In 1969, he started his career with the film ‘Gunda’. But he got his big break with ‘Geeta Gaata Hoon Main’ in ‘Laal Patthar’ (1971). He wrote songs for many films between the 70’s and 80’s. But he got real recognition from the songs of the film ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ released in 1989. He penned the lyrics for the songs ‘Aate Jaate, Haste Gaate’, ‘Kabootar Ja Ja’, ‘Aaja Sham Hone Aayee’, ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ and ‘Kahe Tose Sajna’ and all these songs became hits.
