RBI retains repo rate at 6.5%, GDP projected at 6.5%

As expected by economists, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday announced keeping the repo rate steady at 6.5 per cent.

After the committee’s three-day meeting, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das today said that the MPC has unanimously decided to keep the repo rate at 6.5 per cent.

Das said that keeping in view the economic factors, the committee has estimated the GDP growth rate to be 6.5 percent in the financial year 2023-24.

The committee has predicted an inflation rate of 5.4 per cent for the current fiscal taking into account domestic and global factors.

Das said there is uncertainty due to geopolitical conditions, monsoon and other factors. The three-day meeting of the MPC began on August 8, which ended today.

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has said on Thursday that our economy has been growing at a reasonable pace and has become the 5th largest economy in the world. Which contributes about 15% to the global growth.
