The reality of inflation in the country is that the retail inflation has increased to 7.44 percent in the month of July. This is the highest level of inflation in 15 months. Earlier in April 2022, the inflation was 7.79 percent. Inflation has increased due to costlier food items, especially vegetables. In June, the retail inflation was 4.81 percent.
The Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) has increased to 11.51 per cent in the month of July. It was 4.49% in June. This index shows the increase and decrease in the prices of food items. Food articles account for about half of the CPI basket. Inflation has crossed the upper tolerance limit of 6% of RBI in July.
