MLA Gopal Kanda acquitted in 2012 air hostess suicide case

Geetika Sharma worked as an air hostess on Gopal Kanda’s airlines; she committed suicide in August 2012 allegedly due to harassment by Kanda.

Delhi Court on Monday acquitted legislator and Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) president Gopal Kanda in the 2012 Geetika Sharma suicide case.

Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Vikas Dhull also acquitted co-accused Aruna Chadha.

A detailed copy of the order is awaited.

The case relates to the death of air hostess Geetika Sharma who worked for Kanda’s aviation company MDLR airlines. She was later made director of one of Kanda’s corporate offices in Gurgaon.

She died by suicide on August 5, 2012 leaving behind a two-page suicide note alleging harassment by Kanda and one of his employees named Aruna Chadha.

The legislator was arrested in 2012 on allegations of abetment of Sharma’s suicide. Initially, offence of rape was also invoked against him; however, it was later dropped.

Just six months after Sharma’s death suicide, her mother also died by suicide.
