Karnataka Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao attacked the Central Government over the death sentence given to eight former Indian Navy officers in Qatar. Rao is also the AICC secretary in-charge of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. He said on social media on Friday that it is shocking that a court in Qatar has sentenced eight former staff members of the Indian Naval Force to death. But, under the pretext of maintaining confidentiality, the Central Government is terming it as a normal incident. Is it a common occurrence to give death sentence to personnel serving the Indian Navy?

“The death sentence given to eight former Indian Naval officers is a matter of grave concern for the entire country. The decision which has come amid the Israel-Palestine conflict is a matter of concern. Those who have served the country are being sentenced to death on foreign soil. The punishment has been given. The Central Government will have to take steps sensitively in this matter.

“It is not just the families of those on death row who are worried, the entire country is worried.”
