The body of another Israeli hostage was found near Gaza’s al-Shifa hospital, the Israeli military IDF said on Friday, just a day after the remains of a 65-year-old abducted were found in the compound of the largest hospital in the Hamas-controlled territory. The Israel Defense Forces said the body was that of 19-year-old Corporal Noah Marciano, who was abducted and killed by Hamas on October 7.
“His body was found and removed by IDF soldiers near al-Shifa hospital in Gaza. The IDF expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family and will continue to support them,” the IDF said in a post on Twitter. Marciano’s body was discovered two days after the Israeli military confirmed that he had died and his family was also informed of his demise.
She appeared in a video released by Hamas on Monday, the BBC reports. Hamas’ armed wing, the al-Qassam Brigades, claimed he was killed in an Israeli airstrike on 9 November. According to Israeli officials, Marciano was working as a monitor when Hamas fighters attacked the Nahal Oz kibbutz on October 7.
Friday’s announcement came a day after the IDF said it had recovered the body of Yehudit Weiss, a 65-year-old Israeli woman, from al-Shifa hospital, where the army had launched a search and raid operation on Wednesday. According to officials, 237 people have been held captive in Gaza, including Israelis, foreign citizens and children.
So far, four civilian hostages have been released by Hamas and one female soldier has been rescued by Israeli forces. Israel has stated that Hamas operates a command center beneath al-Shifa hospital and also uses the medical complex as a base. However, these allegations have been repeatedly denied by Hamas.
