The earthquake was also felt in the Moroccan coastal cities of Rabat, Casablanca and Essaouira. Videos posted on social media show collapsed buildings, piles of debris scattered in narrow streets and a scene of devastation all around.

Due to the earthquake, debris was scattered in the narrow streets and goods fell from the shelves in people’s homes. The tremors were felt at 11 pm local time. A large number of houses have collapsed in the city of Marrakesh. After the disaster, local people started relief work.

Brahim Himmi, a Marrakesh city resident, told the agency that many old buildings had collapsed due to the earthquake and that he saw ambulance after ambulance leaving the old city.
