Shiv Sena-UBT president and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday challenged the BJP-Shiv Sena government in the state to conduct the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections through ballot paper instead of EVMs. Addressing the media, Thackeray said that recently BJP has got success in three out of five state assembly elections. But if you have courage then conduct BMC elections through ballot paper instead of EVM.
Giving a challenge, he said, “BJP has recently got a huge victory in three states (Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh). But my challenge to them is to conduct the upcoming BMC elections through ballot paper.” He further said that if you have courage, then first conduct BMC elections and conduct that election only through ballot paper and then see the results.
Along with this, Uddhav Thackeray also sought details of the status of the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, which has recently been handed over to the Adani Group. The former CM said that the people of Dharavi need to relocate along with their industries and added that they should be given houses of at least 400-500 square feet.
He expressed concern over the number of slum dwellers in Dharavi reportedly facing eligibility issues for inclusion in the improvement project. Thackeray said Shiv Sena-UBT will take out a protest march in Dharavi on December 16 to demand answers on various apprehensions of the people.
Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) ally and leader of opposition in the assembly Vijay Wadettiwar also came out in support of Thackeray’s demand to conduct municipal elections through ballot paper. “Even when Thackeray was in alliance with BJP, he had made a similar demand, although at that time the demand was for the Congress. But now the ballot paper should be used,” the Congress leader said.
He pointed to some alleged instances of suspected EVM tampering and said doubts have been created in the minds of people. Wadettiwar said, “Major democracies like the United States have also discontinued EVMs. Remove the confusion in the minds of the public. If the elections are really being conducted honestly then conduct them through ballot paper once and remove the fear of the people.” Do it.”
