Game development software company Unity has announced that it will be laying off layoffs as part of cost-saving measures. The company said that several weeks ago, they began a comprehensive assessment of their product portfolio to focus on the products that are most valuable to their customers.
In its third-quarter earnings report, Unity said it is also evaluating the right cost structure to align with a more focused portfolio. “We are taking rapid action and expect to make a final decision in the next few weeks,” the company said. We expect to launch the scheme within this quarter and complete all interventions before the end of the first quarter of 2024.”
“This move will likely include discontinuing some product offerings, reducing our workforce, and reducing our office footprint,” the game developer said.
The company said it is difficult to predict the exact timing of these interventions, and it is not providing guidance for the fourth quarter or full year 2023. In September, Unity announced a new pricing model which faced backlash from developers.
