The Uttar Pradesh Prison Administration Department has issued an order for the release of former UP minister Amarmani Tripathi and his wife Madhumani Tripathi, who are serving life imprisonment in the poetess Madhumita Shukla murder case. Citing good conduct, the remaining sentence of both has been abolished. The release order was issued by the prison administration with the permission of the Governor. Both will be released after 20 years.

Poet Madhumita Shukla was murdered about 20 years ago. The matter was investigated by the CBI. The investigating agency had convicted Amarmani and his wife Madhumani and filed a charge sheet in the court. Later, the trial in the case was shifted to Dehradun on charges of intimidation of witnesses. Both are in jail for the last 20 years, one month and 19 days.
How was Madhumita Shukla murdered?
On 9 May 2003, famous poetess Madhumita Shukla was shot dead in Paper Mill Colony, Nishatganj, Lucknow. There was a stir in the then BSP government due to the massacre. The police officers who reached the spot within a few minutes realized the matter. The servant Deshraj had already informed the police about Madhumita and Amarmani’s love affair. After this, the police had taken further action in this matter.
After the murder, on October 24, 2007, the Fast Track Court of Dehradun convicted Amarmani, his wife Madhumani, nephew Rohit Chaturvedi and shooter Santosh Rai and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
