After the assembly elections held in five states, counting of votes in 4 states will take place tomorrow i.e. on Sunday. Counting of votes in Mizoram will be done on Monday. At present, Congress is in power in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, while BJP is in power in Madhya Pradesh and BRS is in power in Telangana.

Counting of votes for the assembly elections held in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Telangana will take place on Sunday. There are less than six months left for the general elections in the country and in such a situation the assembly elections of these states are being seen as semi-final contests.
Congress is in power in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in power in Madhya Pradesh. There is a direct contest between Congress and BJP in these three states, while K Chandrasekhar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is in power in Telangana.
In most of the exit polls, BJP is ahead in Madhya Pradesh and a close contest is expected in Rajasthan, while Congress is expected to get lead in Telangana and Chhattisgarh. Counting of votes will begin at 8 am on Sunday amid tight security for 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh, 90 seats in Chhattisgarh, 119 seats in Telangana and 199 seats in Rajasthan. Elections to an assembly seat in Rajasthan were postponed due to the death of a candidate.
Election officials said three-level security arrangements have been made for counting of votes and only people holding valid passes will be allowed to enter the counting centres.
After ousting the BJP from power in Karnataka in May, the Congress is eyeing victory in Madhya Pradesh and Telangana, while it is hoping to retain power in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. An impressive performance in these elections will strengthen the party’s position in the opposition alliance ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ (INDIA). INDIA ‘India’ alliance has been formed to compete with BJP in the Lok Sabha elections to be held next year.
On the other hand, BJP is trying to repeat the winning streak of Gujarat in Madhya Pradesh. BJP is ruling Gujarat since 1998. Four-time Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is hoping to form his government again in Madhya Pradesh. BJP is also expected to win in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh and wants to regain its hold in Hindi speaking states before the Lok Sabha elections.
Before the counting of votes on Saturday, Union Minister Anurag Thakur expressed confidence that BJP will get majority in Rajasthan. Thakur said in Jaipur, “The face of Congress has been exposed. Only the results are yet to come tomorrow. The people who wanted a good government will be formed by the BJP government.” On the other hand, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday refuted the reports which claimed that he has given information to the Congress candidates who are likely to win in the assembly elections of five states. It has been asked to make arrangements for accommodation in various resorts and hotels in Karnataka.
Shivakumar was reacting to reports that the Congress high command had asked him to make arrangements again like the one made for 44 Gujarat MLAs during the Rajya Sabha elections in August 2017 to prevent ‘horse-trading’. Madhya Pradesh (230 seats)

Chief Minister Shivraj Chauhan is in the fray from (Budhani seat) and Kamal Nath (Chhindwara). Apart from these, three Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Patel and Faggan Singh Kulaste have also contested the assembly elections. The electoral fate of BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, who is contesting from Indore-1, and three BJP Lok Sabha members – Rakesh Singh, Ganesh Singh and Reeti Pathak will also be decided tomorrow.
Rajasthan (199/200 seats)
Counting of votes in 199 out of 200 assembly seats of Rajasthan will be done on Sunday. A total of 1862 candidates are trying their electoral luck on these seats. In Rajasthan too, the main contest is believed to be between the ruling Congress and the main opposition party BJP. In the last few decades, traditionally in every assembly election in Rajasthan, the government changes… once by Congress and once by BJP.
