An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale hit Pakistan today at 03:38 am: National Center for Seismology
3 देशों में आया भूकंप, पाकिस्तान में 4.2 रही तीव्रता
Earthquake tremors were felt in Papua New Guinea, Pakistan and Jijang between 3 and 4 in the morning. The National Seismological Center said a magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck off the northern coast of New Guinea, but no tsunami warning was issued. The quake struck just off the coast of Wewak, the capital of the Pacific island state’s East Sepik province, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) off the coast.
The USGS said the epicenter of the earthquake occurred at 3:16 a.m. local time. The Tsunami Warning Center said in a separate bulletin that there is no danger of a tsunami due to the earthquake. Apart from this, today at 03:38 am an earthquake of 4.2 magnitude on the Richter scale occurred in Pakistan. At 3:45 pm, an earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale was felt in Jijang.
7.0 magnitude earthquake
Earthquakes are common in Papua New Guinea, and although they do not cause widespread damage in the populated jungle highlands, they can trigger destructive landslides. At least seven people were killed in April this year when a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck a forested area in the country’s interior. About 180 houses were destroyed in the heavily rainforested Karawari region, near the epicenter.
150 people died
Last September, a 7.6-magnitude earthquake destroyed hundreds of homes, collapsed roads and knocked out power across the country’s rugged north. Because of this 10 people were killed. It was the biggest earthquake to hit Papua New Guinea since 2018, when about 150 people were killed after a 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck Hela province. Many of Papua New Guinea’s nine million citizens live outside major towns and cities, where difficult terrain and a lack of sealed roads can severely hamper search and rescue efforts.
