Delhi’s air became suffocated even before Diwali, AQI over 300

Even before Diwali, the air quality in Delhi has reached very poor condition. The situation is such that people have started having trouble breathing. After being in the “very poor” category, the air quality index (AQI) in Delhi reached 221 under the “poor” category on Tuesday, according to data from the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).

Dhirpur recorded an AQI of 303 under the “very poor” category, Lodhi Road with PM 2.5 concentration at 197 and PM 10 at 148, both under the “moderate” category.

Meanwhile, PM 2.5 at IIT Delhi station stood at 218 in the “poor” category, while PM 10 reached 165 in the “moderate” category. PM 2.5 concentration on Mathura Road was in the “moderate” category with 163 and PM 10 concentration at 128. In Pusa, it was 145 which falls in the “moderate” category.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered “good”; 51 and 100 “satisfactory”; 101 and 200 “medium”; 201 and 300 “bad”; 301 and 400 “very bad”; And 401 and 500 are considered “severe”.
