Cyclonic storm ‘Midhili’ to cross B’desh coast tonight: IMD

The IMD said there is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places over North 24 Parganas, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura in West Bengal on Friday and Saturday. Also said that during this period, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain at many places in South Assam and Eastern Meghalaya.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that cyclonic storm ‘Midhili’ is likely to cross the Bangladesh coast on Friday night. Presently it is over the north-west and adjacent north-east Bay of Bengal. The weather department has also predicted that it is likely to cause heavy rainfall at isolated places over Tamil Nadu and Kerala on November 19 and 20.

Thursday’s deep depression over west central Bay of Bengal intensified into cyclonic storm “Midhili” over northwest Bay of Bengal by 5.30 am on Friday, the IMD said in its bulletin on Friday. The weather department said it moved north-northeastwards at a speed of 26 kmph during the last six hours and was centered over northwest and adjoining north-east Bay of Bengal at 8.30 am on Friday.

It is likely to move north-northeast and cross Bangladesh coast near Khepupara with wind speed ranging from 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph during Friday night, the IMD said. The IMD has further predicted that light rain is likely at many places over the coastal districts of West Bengal (North 24 Parganas) till Friday evening.

“Light to moderate rainfall is expected at most places with heavy falls at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Friday and Saturday,” the IMD said. The IMD has further predicted that light to moderate rain is likely at many places over South Assam and East Meghalaya on Friday and Saturday.
