Chandrababu Naidu’s judicial custody extended till November 1

Chandrababu Naidu was produced in the court virtually from Rajahmundry Central Jail. The judge extended the custody for two weeks.

Vijayawada ACB Court on Thursday booked former Chief Minister N. Judicial custody of Chandrababu Naidu extended till 1 November. Naidu was produced in the court virtually from Rajahmundry Central Jail. The judge extended the custody for two weeks. Naidu told the judge that he feared for his safety in jail. The judge asked him to give this in writing. The judge directed the jail authorities to place the letter written by Naidu before the court.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president also informed the judge about the health problems he was facing. The judge also directed the jail authorities to submit the medical report of Chandrababu Naidu. The court took information from the jail authorities about his health condition and the steps being taken for his treatment. CID had arrested Naidu on September 9 in an alleged scam that took place when he was the Chief Minister. The next day, Vijayawada ACB Court sent him to judicial custody till September 22. Later he was sent to jail.

The case pertains to the establishment of Clusters of Centers of Excellence (CoE) in the state of Andhra Pradesh, the total estimated project cost of which was Rs 3300 crore, when Naidu was the Chief Minister. The CID has claimed that the alleged fraud has caused a huge loss of Rs 371 crore to the state government.
