Colombia and Chile have recalled their ambassadors from the Jewish country in protest against Israel’s ongoing horrific attacks on Palestine’s Gaza. Both countries have termed Israel’s attacks on Gaza as genocide. “I have decided to recall our ambassador to Israel for talks. If Israel does not stop the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza, we cannot live there,” said Colombian President Gustavo Petro in a post on Twitter on Wednesday.
Earlier in a statement late on Tuesday night, the Colombian Foreign Ministry said that the government strongly condemns the attacks by Israeli security forces in Gaza. The Government reiterates the obligation that Israeli security forces comply with international humanitarian law. He also said that peace will come in the region only with full recognition of both the countries by all the countries of the world.
Meanwhile, Chile’s Foreign Ministry also said the decision to recall Israel’s ambassador was over the country’s “violations of international humanitarian law” in the Gaza Strip. The ministry said, “Chile strongly condemns and says with great concern that this military operation is carrying out collective punishment against the Palestinian civilian population in Gaza, without respecting international law. More than eight thousand civilians died. Most of those killed are women and children.
The Chilean government statement said the Chilean President called for an “immediate cessation of hostilities” to “carry out humanitarian assistance operations to help hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people and civilian victims.” Earlier, Bolivia had also decided to break diplomatic relations with Israel.
