After completion of the investigation, the CBI had filed a charge sheet in 2017 against Ranjeet alias Rakibul, his mother Kaushal Rani and the then Registrar (Vigilance) of Jharkhand High Court, Mushtaq Ahmed.

Charges were framed against the accused on July 2, 2018. After this, a long trial went on against all three. During the arguments conducted by the CBI, the allegations of religious conversion, sexual harassment and dowry harassment leveled by Tara Shahdev against Kohli alias Rakibul were declared true. Kohli’s mother and the dismissed Registrar (Vigilance) of the High Court were also said to be complicit in this entire conspiracy.

CBI had recorded the statements of total 26 witnesses in the court in this case. Many evidences were also presented before the court.

Let us tell you that national shooter Tara Shahdev had accused Ranjit Singh Kohli of marrying her by cheating. Both of them were married on 7 July 2014. After marriage, she came to know that Ranjit Singh Kohli had already changed his religion to Islam and had changed his name to Rakibul Hasan.

After marriage with Tara Shahdev, Ranjeet alias Rakibul started pressurizing her to convert to Islam. Tara Shahdev had told in the case lodged with the police that for not doing so, she was beaten and was even bitten by a dog several times.

According to Shahdev, he was not even given food for several days. Both Rakibul and her mother used to torture Tara mentally and physically and asked her to convert to Islam if she wanted her married life to be normal. He was strictly warned not to apply ‘sindoor’, otherwise his hands would be broken.

Tara had alleged that dowry was also demanded from her in-laws. After about one and a half month of torture, on August 17, 2014, she called her brother from the mobile phone of a domestic help and asked him to come to her in-laws’ house with the police. After this Tara was freed.
