गुजरात दंगों के मामलों में पूर्व जज, वकील और गवाहों की सुरक्षा वापस ली गई, बढ़ी चिंता
The government has withdrawn the security of the former judge who had convicted 32 people in the Naroda Patiya case related to the Gujarat riots. Not only this, the Gujarat government has also withdrawn police protection from the witnesses and their lawyers in this case. Those who lost police security include former principal sessions judge Jyotsna Yagnik, who had convicted 32 accused in the Naroda Patiya case related to the massacre of 97 people.
Retired judge Jyotsna Yagnik had told the Special Investigation Team of the Supreme Court that she had received 22 threatening letters and kept receiving blank phone calls at home. After delivering the verdict on such a sensitive case, Judge Jyotsna Yagnik was given Z-plus security. The security of which was later reduced to Y category. Now the news is that his security has been withdrawn. According to reports, the guards posted at his home were reportedly removed without informing him in November. In such a situation, they are worried about their safety.
The SIT had set up a special cell on the basis of the recommendation of the Supreme Court for all the 9 cases falling under its purview. These include the Godhra train massacre and massacres at Naroda Patiya, Naroda Gam, Gulberg Society, Deepda Darwaza, Sardarpur and Ode.
Gulberg Society massacre key witness Imtiaz Khan Pathan said, “Who will be responsible if something happens to us? Court, SIT or police? If police protection is removed then we should be given arms licenses for our protection. It was wrong for the SIT to withdraw police protection when most of the cases were pending in courts and most of the accused were out on bail.”
Deepda Darwaza case witness Iqbal Baloch has termed the instructions to police stations to keep an eye on him and others as wrong. He said the decision to cancel police protection of witnesses, which came out on December 13, took him by surprise. Gujarat Police has withdrawn all personnel deployed for the security of witnesses, lawyers and a judge on the recommendation of SIT chief BC Solanki, officials said.
