1,000 children amputated without anesthesia in Gaza: UN

UN special envoy Frances Albanese said at least 1,000 children in Gaza have had their hands amputated without anesthesia after Israel blocked the entry of supplies of essential medicines, according to media reports.

He said every story in Gaza is harrowing. UNICEF said at least 9,000 children in Gaza have been injured by Israeli bombardment, potentially losing an arm or a leg.

Israel launched a ground offensive inside Gaza on 27 October after Hamas attacked Israel in a surprise attack on 7 October. Since the conflict between Hamas and Israel began, at least 21,320 Palestinians have been killed, mostly children and women, while 55,603 Palestinians have been injured.
